Former Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is expected to join the Bangladesh national cricket team as spin bowling coach on August 14, Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said on Thursday.
The spinner will have a four-month contracts with the cricket board and is all set to join the national cricket camp beginning on August 12.
The Tigers begin their making preparations for a tournament to be played in Trinidad and Tobago where they will play as BCBXI, followed by the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.
‘Saqlain Mustaq is expected to arrive on August 14 on a four-month contract,’ Sabbir Khan, cricket operation manager of the board, told New Age on Thursday.
Saqlain, famous for his pioneering doosra delivery, had 208 Test wickets and 288 one-day international
wickets to his name, will guide the spinners who form the largest part of Bangladesh’s bowling attack and are also considered to be the biggest strength of the side.
His former bowling partner Mushtaq Ahmed also once acted as Bangladesh’s spin coach for a very short period.
