A businessman was robbed and stabbed to death by unidentified people in front of Bangla Academy in the capital on Wednesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mahmudul Hasan Chowdhury Ratan, 45, owner
of a dying factory named Colour and Fashion Limited in Gazipur.
The deceased’s sister Shirin Akhter said that Ratan told her three muggers blocked his path at about 6:00pm and robbed Tk 1 lakh from him after stabbing him with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 8:30pm.
Shirin said her brother often came to Nayabazar in Dhaka to buy chemicals for his factory.
He was on his way to his sister’s house in Azimpur by rickshaw from Nayabazar, she said.
Shahbagh police sub-inspector Sohel Rana said they heard about the incident.
