Versatile singer Shakila Zafar has not lost an iota of her excitement for Eid even as she recovers from a bout of viral fever, which has slowed her down somewhat.
Though she is not recording for any special TV show or albums at the moment, she spoke to The Daily Star about her Eid plans:
How do you plan to spend Eid day? Will you be celebrating outside Dhaka?
Shakila Zafar: No. It is my priority to share this special day with my parents. We love to celebrate Eid in a traditional manner. My father goes with his grandchildren
to offer special prayers early in the morning, while my mother prepares special dishes for lunch that our entire family enjoys.
Do you cook as well?
Shakila Zafar: Yes. People often compliment me on my cooking, saying “Tomar hathe jadoo achhey” (There is magic in your cooking!), which is why I entertain guests at
dinner on Eid day. I love to try out new recipes.
What about gifts?
Shakila Zafar: Receiving and giving gifts during the festival are equally exciting for me. I like to buy the trendy deshi items such as sari, panjabi, fotua as gifts.
What about the disadvantaged? Do they figure in your Eid celebrations?
Shakila Zafar: Yes, I believe in giving gifts to them not only during festivals but the year round. I distribute seasonal fruits to underprivileged children and it
gives me immense pleasure to do so. They are a part of our society and should be given love and care.
