Silk fabrics, weaved and designed by local artisans, are on tremendous demand in the Eid markets of Rajshahi city, with the moneyed people rushing to the city silk showrooms every day.
After a lull in trade and commerce in the city due to a week-long drizzling, shopping in Eid markets has gained momentum as the sky became clear on Tuesday.
The traders in the city markets are also happy with the clear skies and a huge turnout of customers.
The first choice for Eid outfits for both men and women alike are the silk fabrics.
After visiting silk markets in Rajshahi, one can easily understand why Rajshahi is known as the Silk Capital.
Sopura Silk Mills Limited, one of the leading silk mills in the country, and others silk factories has already introduced silk markets with diverse fashions and qualities.
Aiming at Eid shoppers, the silk factories have introduced hundreds of varieties of saris and punjabees. In addition, there are varieties of three pieces, and scarves. There are also varieties of dresses for the children.
Tasbita Tasmin, a student of Jahangirnagar University, who visited a silk showroom on Tuesday, told New Age that silk dresses were easy and comfortable for wearing.
Susmita Chakraborti, a housewife of Sagorpara in Rajshahi city, said, ‘Silk products look very gorgeous and that is why we buy silk dresses.’
Sadar Ali, managing director and owner of Sopura Silk Mills Limited, informed that aiming at the customers of all categories, varieties of saris, punjabees, three pieces and children’s dresses were assembled at the showrooms of Sopura Silk Mills throughout the country.
Saidur Rahman, showroom in-charge of Sopura Silk Mills Limited, said the chief attraction of Sopura Silk Mills was the Katoa Saree designed on the Muslin.
This is the first time saris of such design were introduced. He further informed that the price of the saris varied from Tk 3,200 to Tk 10,500.
Sopura has also introduced newly designed saris stripped and designed on Andy silk which are available at Tk 3,500 to Tk 7,000.
Saidur Rahman further informed, Sopura has introduced varieties of newly designed three pieces blocked on Muslin whose price range is from Tk 4,500 to 5,200.
