4 stolen vehicles seized
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested eight carjackers and recovered three private cars, one microbus, firearms and other valuable items from their possession during separate drives in the capital on Thursday.
Mokhlesur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), conducted a drive and arrested the carjackers at Moghbazar in the city, said a DMP press release.
The arrestees are Md Gias Uddin Apan alias Shafikul Islam alias Shafik, 25, Al Amin, 25, Anarul alias Anwar, 30, Rubel, 20, and Mahmudur Hasan alias Tarek, 18.
Police recovered one private car, one pistol, two magazines and four round bullets, three choppers, one knife, 35 cell phones, one iPad, two US social security cards, one ATM card, one jewellery set, six diamond rings, one diamond necklace, one laptop, two Samsung galaxy tabs and various other items from their possession.
Later, as per their information, police recovered two private cars from Uttara area of the capital.
These carjackers were arrested several times before, said the press release. But the miscreants start the same criminal activities as soon as they come out on bail, the press release added.
Meanwhile, police on another drive in the capital nabbed Md Abdur Razzak, 52, Md Ashraf Hawlader, 49, and Md Farid Munshi, 40, and recovered one microbus from their possession.
The trio belongs to a gang that allegedly dope people to rob their cars and other valuables from them.
