Bangladesh College of Leather Technology has started its journey anew as a full-fledged institution under Dhaka University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
The institution started operating as the Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology after an agreement was signed on January 1 in this regard at the office of Dhaka University’s vice chancellor.
Dr Kamal Uddin, treasurer of DU, and Sheikh Alamgir Hossain, director of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides, said a press release yesterday.
DTE, under the education ministry, used to operate the leather college.
Land, structure, laboratory equipment, furniture, vehicles, financial liabilities, and manpower of the leather college were handed over to the DU authorities as per the agreement for operation of the new institute.
Terming the agreement historic, DU VC Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said from now on this institute, like other institutes in the country, will be able to contribute in the progress of the country’s leather industry.
