Twelve eminent personalities and an organisation have been named yesterday for this year’s Ekushey Padak in recognition of their contribution to different fields.
The recipients are MA Wadud (posthumous), Prof Ajit Kumar Guha (posthumous), Principal M Kamruzzaman (posthumous) and Tofazzal Hossain for language movement, and Enamul Hoque Mostafa Shahid for Liberation War.
They are joined by Nurjahan Murshid (posthumous) and Samson H Chowdhury (posthumous) for social service, Rafique Azad and Asad Chowdhury for language and literature, Kaderi Kibria, Jamaluddin Hossain, Charon Kobi Bijoy Sarkar (posthumous) and Udichi Shilpi Goshthi for arts.
Each recipient will get Tk 1 lakh, a gold medal and a citation.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over Ekushey Padak to the recipients at the Osmani Memorial Hall on February 20, a day ahead of the International Mother Language Day.
