Shirin Akhtar and Taslima Akhtar of BKSP stole the opening day’s show in the Dhaka Bank 25th National Junior Athletics Championship which began at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
Both Shirin and Taslima earned a couple of gold medals out of 12 events decided on the first day.
Taslima became first in the juvenile group leaping a distance of 5.04 metre. Later Taslima extende4d her5 gold medal to two winning the 200 metre sprint gold with a timing of 26.70 sec.
Shirin also became first in the 200 metre sprint in the girls’ group with a timing of 27.00 sec. Earlier she won the high jump gold with a leap of 1.43 metre.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarkar inaugurated the two day meet as chief guest. Dhaka Bank Limited Managing Director Khondokar Fazle Rashid was present as special guest. Bangladesh Athletic Federation president ATM Hayatuzzaman Khan presided over the opening ceremony.
Immediately after the formal declaration by the sports minister, Samar Ranjan and Rowshan Ara Putul lit the meet flame.

BOYS UNDER-18
