Bangladesh Film Archive and Bangladesh Film Archive alumni association have jointly arranged the first-ever poster exhibition of the country’s films to showcase the history and evolution of Bangla films.
The three-day exhibition of posters of Bangladeshi films has been inaugurated at the Zainul Gallery 2 on Wednesday to celebrate
the second national film day.
The exhibition showcases 67 posters of 67 films ranging from 1959 to date. The exhibition displays posters of most box-office hit numbers.
The posters showcased here are, the organizers believe, a reliable way to introduce the visitors to the history and progress of Bangla films. The oldest poster entry at the exhibition is a 1959 hit film Mahiuddin’s Matir Pahar, and the most recent one is Nasiruddin Yusuff’s 2011 film Guerrilla.
Between them, the development and progress of films have been meticulously represented by the entries. The 60s film stars Rahman, Nadim, Sujata, Azim, Sultana Zaman to recent celebrities on posters in their filmy postures are really something interesting to see.
Even one hand-made dummy of a poster is on display to let the visitors know how posters were made in days preceding the digital era.
The circular wall of Zainul Gallery 2 with the posters on it show in a circular way the long journey that films of our country have undertaken.
Anisur Rahman Litu, member secretary of Bangladesh Film Archive Alumni Association, told New Age, ‘We have tried to display the most discussed and audience-acclaimed films of our country since the beginning days.’
‘We hope that film-lovers will get an overall knowledge of the growth of the film industry,’ he added.
Sajedul Islam, a visitor at the gallery, said, ‘The posters from the previous decades are really rare, we don’t get to see them around anymore.’
Another visitor Mamun, a student of Dhaka University, said, ‘history of our films can be tracked here.’
Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest, whereas Kamrun Nahar, director general of Bangladesh Film Archive, and Morshedul Islam, convener of Bangladesh Film Archive Alumni Association, were present as special guests.
The exhibition will end today.
