Hosts Bangladesh and the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team will begin their series today at Mirpur as both the age-level teams will be looking forward to prove their
worth ahead of the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup next year.
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will start the series with the four-day match of the two-match series before moving to Sylhet on April 15 to start the second longer-version game a day later at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium.
The two four-day matches will be followed by two one-day internationals on April 21 and 23 respectively before returning before returning to Dhaka to complete the series with the last three ODIs scheduled for April 26, 27 and 29.
‘We are hopeful about performing well that would help us to get a chance in the national team in the future,’ Bangladesh skipper Mussadek Hossain told reporters at the title unveiling ceremony at Mirpur on Tuesday.
The focal attention will be on Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who blasted a double century and followed it up with a knock of 187 in the recently concluded Young Tigers Under-18 National Cricket Championship.
‘This is the second camp of our team and we are confident of coming up with a positive result as most of our players are among the runs,’ said Mussadek.
Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis also expects it to be a keenly-fought series, the lone cricketer from the last Under-19 squad who had played Bangladesh in the previous World Cup in Australia a year ago.
‘We are aware that they are a very competitive side and we need to put up our best effort to get a positive result,’ said Kusal.
