Sri Lanka is eager to import medicine from Bangladesh as Bangladeshi medicines have achieved international standard, visiting
Sri Lankan health minister Maithripala Sirisena said on Tuesday.
Maithripala said this as he called on health minister AFM Ruhal Haque at the latter’s secretariat office in the city.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues covering progress in health sector of the two countries, an official handout said.
The Sri Lankan health minister appreciated the quality of medicine of Bangladesh saying that they had achieved international standard. The two countries would be benefited if Sri Lanka import medicine from Bangladesh, he added.
Referring to the existing bilateral relations, Ruhal Haque said the two countries had been working together for long for the betterment of the two nations and as a result, they could play a vital role for overall development of the region.
He said Bangladesh now has reached a strong position in terms of manufacturing medicine and the country is now exporting medicine to 87 countries across the world.
The minister also requested his Sri Lankan counterpart to impart training to Bangladeshi nurses in Sri Lanka.
State minister for health Mujibur Rahman Fakir and health secretary MM Niazuddin were also present on the occasion.
