Noted nuclear scientist Dr M A Wazed Miah and also the husband of the Prime Minister, was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Fatehpur village in Pirgonj of Rangpur with the tears of thousands of well-wishers.
He was buried with state honour at 3:00p.m. Three Namaz-e-janazas were held. The first Janaza was held at Baitul Mokarram in Dhaka, the second Janaza was held at Pirgonj High School ground at 1.50 PM and the third was held at Fatehpur Primary School Ground in Pirgonj.
The qu’ul khwani of Dr. Wazed will be held at the Prime Minister’s official residence Jamuna on May 14 after the Asr prayer.
After the first Janaza of Dr Wazed at the Baitul Mokarram at around 11:30AM, an air force helicopter carrying his body flew out of Dhaka towards Pirgonj.
The body of Dr Wazed arrived at his ancestral home in Pirganj at 1PM for burial in the family graveyard. Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana had arrived in
Pirganj by another helicopter at around 12:15PM to pay respects.
The lawmakers of Rangpur and Dinajpur districts , Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur and family members of Dr. Wazed received the body.
The coffin was covered with a national flag before janaza and a guard of honour was accorded. The bugles rendered a plaintive tune.
A third helicopter carried 10 VIPs including former president Ershad, JP secretary general Ruhul Amin Howladar and Hasina’s cousin Sheikh Helaluddin.
Prior to the burial, Wazed’s nephew Shameem, Awami League presidium member Amir Hossain Amu, minister Mosharraf Hossain and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad spoke to the assembled people.
Moulavi Abdul Khaleque Mia, elder bother of Dr Wajed, sought forgiveness from all on behalf of the late scientist.
Talking to reporters LGRD minister and AL spokesman Syed Ashraful Islam told that Wazed’s son Sajib Wazed Joy, staying in USA-, might return home today.
He also informed that his daughter Saima Wazed Putul, a resident of Canada, gave birth to a child last month and so cannot take the long journey back home at the moment.
The Baitul Mukarram Janaza was led by Khatib Mufti Maulana Salahuddin Ahmed, while President Md Zillur Rahman, speaker Abdul Hamid, members of the cabinet and the parliament, three chiefs of the armed forces and political leaders and activists of Awami League and other parties joined the Janaza.
Dr Wazed breathed his last on Saturday afternoon at the Square Hospital in the capital after prolonged illness.
Among others, Dr Wazed’s elder brother Abdul Khaleque Miah, former president Iajuddin Ahmed, former chief adviser Habibur Rahman, AL general secretary Abdul Jalil, former speaker Jamiruddin Sircar, BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddiqui and JP (Manju)’s acting president Sheikh Shahidul Islam, Jatiya Party secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawladar, LDP president Oli Ahmed, BNP vice-presidents MK Anwar and Tariqul Islam, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, Sector Commanders, Forum vice- chairman KM Shafiullah, Dhaka University VC AAMS Arefin Siddique and many others took part in the Janaza.
A number of individuals and social, cultural and political organisations mourned his death and prayed to the Almighty for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology Teachers’ Association, Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association, Jatiya Janata Party, SA Paribahan Ltd, Dhaka Stock Exchange, Inspector General of Police Nur Mohammad, Bangladesh Christian Association, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Sonali Bank Employees Association, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Jatiya Samajtrantik Dal, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and other organisations expressed deep shock at his death.
