Sri Lankan under-19 cricket team made a solid start as they posted 331-5 at the end of the first day’s play of the first four-day match against the Bangladesh under-19 team at Mirpur on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Sri Lankan U-19 team capitalised on the efforts of their opening batsmen to finish the day well, largely due to the unbeaten knock of 82 from Minod Bhanuka after coming in at number six.
Openers Kusal Mendis (46 from 56 balls) and Hashan Dumindu (36 from 82 balls) added on 77 runs while Sandun Weerakkody struck a quickfire 59 from 61 balls before Bhanuka took charge to put the Island nation in the driving seat.
Bhanuka faced 115 deliveries in his innings and hit eight fours and three sixes.
Bangladesh U-19 leg-spinner Jubair Hossain took 3-117 while off-spinner Mehedy Hasan scalped 2-39.
