Timeless baul numbers were presented at a programme at the Music and Dance Centre auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Acadmy on Thursday evening. Besides, special honour was paid to eight bauls at the show.
Musical organisation Baul Bazar organised the show in celebration of its first founding anniversary.
The cultural show began with a group rendition of hundreds of baul of evergreen baul song Moner dame mon bikri hoi. The stentorian sound coming from the hundred voices along with the touching lyrics of the song moved the listeners.
In solo renditions, Nur Islam’s performance of Moner moto manush paile and Selim Reza’s presentation of Ekdin matir bhitor hobey re ghar received audience acclaims.
Jewel Mahmud and Mostafa; on the other hand, created a joyful atmosphere at the hall while they rendered Buke shell maria and Dakli ki taar pran jorabe ray respectively.
Baul legend Shah Abdul Karim’s remarkable song Gram-er nao jowan hindu mosolman was presented by baul Alamgir Hossain. Besides, baul Shahin, Shahid Sarkar, baul Karim, and other bauls presented folk song at the programme.
Earlier in the evening, a discussion session took place where eight bauls were conferred special honour on behalf of the organisation. Abul Sarkar from Fatullah, Aleya Begum, Akkas Dewan, Karim Shah, Shahid Sarkar, Abul Sarkar from Manikganj, Pagol Chanchal and Mostafa received honorary crest from chief guest of the programme Khabir Uddin Khan, chairman of Swan foam.
