Agitated students of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology on Monday continued with boycotting classes and examinations,
protesting at ‘brutal’ attack one of their fellows at the dormitory.
They demanded arrest of the attackers who stabbed a third year mechanical engineering student, Arif Raihan Dwip, at Kabi Nazrul Hall of the university on April 9.
They also pressed for the resignation of the director of students’ welfare Delwar Hossain for his alleged negligence in duty.
No classes were held as most of the academic building was locked.
The roads were also barricaded for transports and the presence of teachers and students was also thinner.
The students formed a human chain on the day for pushing the demand at BUET Shaheed Minar.
They blamed Jamaat-e-Islam and its student wing Chhatra Shibir for the attack on Dwip, also a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist.
The university administration on Saturday fired its security guard in face of students’ agitation and boycott programme on the campus.
Their other demands include bearing the cost of the treatment of Dwip and ensuring adequate security measures on the campus.
