A kite festival was held on the bank of Jamuna River at Shibalaya in Manikganj on Sunday. It was organised by Shibalaya Shotodol Shangskritik o Shamajik Shangathan to celebrate Pahela Baishakh.
Hundreds of kites flew in the sky, competing against one another. Around fifty kinds of kite including koira, potinga, dol, baj, sapa ,projapoti, moyur , phool and manush were brought to the festival, amusing over one thousand enthusiastic people attending the event.
The organisation awarded 17 participants in the festival. Hafez Gayan of south Shivalaya village stood first while Mukul Mia of Shivalaya Bandar Bazar came second and Rasel Mia of Shivalaya secured the third position.
There is a growing demand for this kind of fun-filled sports and activities among local people.
