Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Tuesday called upon the people of South Asian countries including Bangladesh to resist terrorism of fanatic forces to cope with the fight against poverty, environmental issues and gender discrimination.
‘The nations must build resistance against terrorism of communal forces to go ahead in the march
of progress and democracy,’ he said while addressing the concluding ceremony of an international seminar at Dhaka University.
India’s Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies and Bangladesh’s Research and Development Collective jointly organised the two-day seminar at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.
Inu said, ‘The leaders of the sub-continent failed to give any positive directions to the people to build non-communal and developed nations.’
He termed the mixture of militarism, religion and democracy as ‘gojamil’ theory that helped the emergence of communal forces in South Asia countries including Bangladesh.
DU history professor Mesbah Kamal said thoughts of Abul Kalam Azad were much relevant in the existing perspective of the country.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies director Sriradha Dutta chaired the occasion.
Earlier, DU vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme on Wednesday.
