The Dhaka University authorities will set up the Institute of Petroleum and Geo Science to promote research on exploring the reserved oil, gas and other natural resources.
The university vice-chancellor, AAMS Arefin Siddique, disclosed this at a press
briefing on the VC office on Tuesday.‘The university will inaugurate the institute soon in cooperation with Russia, aiming at promoting knowledge of new technologies in exploring and utilising oil and gas,’ Arefin told the reporters.
ASM Maksud Kamal said the Russian Gazprom company assured the university authorities of providing all requisite technological and scientific support.
In line with the initiative, a two-day international seminar on ‘Oil and Gas Exploration Technologies’ would begin on the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban today, the press conference informed.
Petrobangla, Gazprom and the university jointly will organise the seminar expected to be inaugurated by the foreign minister, Dipu Moni.
Power, energy and mineral resource ministry adviser Toufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and Russian ambassador to the country Alexander A Nikolayew, among others, are scheduled to attend the programme.
