The Chittagong City Corporation is going to take steps against the risky buildings to avoid losses of lives and property following the wake-up call by the country’s
worst disaster ‘Rana Plaza’ collapse at Savar in Dhaka.
The city mayor, M Manjur Alam Manju, in an emergency meeting on Wednesday ordered its officials to inspect the earlier listed risky buildings in the city.
The Chittagong Development Authority in 2009 made a list of 60 risky
buildings in the city and submitted the list to the CCC for taking necessary steps.
But only three of the 60 buildings were demolished by their owners upon directives from the CCC while the rests still exist.
The CCC on Thursday circulated notices among the owners of the 57 buildings through newspaper advertisements to demolish their buildings immediately.
The CCC also formed five high-powered teams to inspect the conditions of the listed buildings in the city.
The teams comprising three members each have been asked to submit their reports on the next working day.
Chief revenue officer of the city corporation Ahmadul Hoque said the owners of the buildings were notified several times.
‘We failing to take steps against some risky buildings because of legal complications,’ he added.
