The Rajshahi city slum dwellers are going to have improved housing and solar streets facilities.
The city mayor, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, revealed this while distributing bank chaques worth Tk 2.52 crore for eco-friendly infrastructural improvement for the slum communities.
Urban Partnership for Poverty Reduction Project organised the chaque distribution programme held at Moonlight Garden auditorium in the city Thursday afternoon.
All 11 cluster chairmen and 26 leaders of community development committees of UPPRP received the money for implementation of the scheme.
Officials said around 2,200 slum dwellers will get improved housing facilities and around two lakh poor and underprivileged population will derive solar street light amenities with the disbursed money.
Under its Settlement Improvement Fund component, the UPPRP provided the money for uplifting living and livelihood condition of the slum people.
Local Government Engineering Department has been implementing the project in the city with financial support from UNDP in association with UKaid and UNHabitat.
The seven-year programme is being implemented with the main thrust of elevating the living and livelihood condition of around two lakh poor and extreme poor people, especially women and girls, through multifarious interventions in the city by 2015.
