A one-day group cartoon exhibiton titled ‘Unmad Desh TV Cartoon Exhibition’ was held at Sufi Stone Gallary in Magbazar on Wednesday.
Eminent cartoonist and also editor of the cartoon magazine Unmad, Ahsan Habib, and eminent cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam jointly inaugurated the show.
Syed Hasan Imam said, ‘cartoon is an integrated part of our culture and it has a long history. Cartoons played an important role during the country’s war of independence.’
Imam expressed his joy further by adding that a good number of young cartoonists are being involved in this art of expression. He hoped that the cartoonists of the younger generation will work more for the develeopment of this art and the country as well.
‘Cartoons can easily disseminate information to people of all walks of life,’ said Ahsan Habib. He also expressed hope by saying that the young generation of artists are enthusiastic about cartoon and they willingly involve themselves in this art of expression.
The organisers displayed 50 cartoons at the exhibition with the objective of increasing mass awareness. Ahsan Habib, Sayed Rashed Imam, Mehedi Haque, Tarik Saifullah, Nasrin Sultana, Shahriar Sharif and Hasan Morshed among others took part in the exhibition.
The cartoons depict various contemporary issues including load shedding, water crisis, corruption, war criminals, swine flu, eve teasing and digital Bangladesh.
Cartoonist Nur Alam, who has been working with Unmad for the last two years and is also a ticket seller of Transelvania Paribahan said, ‘I have no academic qualification in drawing cartoons. But I love it and I want to build my career as a cartoonist.’
