The Sri Lankan Under-19 team sealed the five-match youth one-day international series 3-2 after prevailing by 62 runs against the Bangladesh Under-19 team
in the fifth and final one-dayer at Mirpur on Monday.
Chasing Sri Lanka Under-19’s low total of 185-10, the Bangladesh Under-19 were bundled out for 123 inside 36 overs to concede the match and the series.
The hosts started well after winning the toss and deciding to field first. The visitors lost wickets at regular intervals as Rifat Pradhan (3-29) and Mehedy Hasan (2-24) wreaked havoc on the
young Sri Lankan batsmen.
Roshan Anuruddha was the highest scorer for the Sri Lankan Under-19 team with 51 runs from 78 deliveries.
In pursuit of the target, the Bangladesh Under-19 batsmen failed to back up the good performance of the bowlers as they were skittled out for a meagre 123 with 14 overs still remaining.
Mehedy struck a run-a-ball 37 but none of the other batsmen crossed 18 as the Bangladesh Under-19 side surrenered meekly, thus squandering a golden opportunity of winning the series.
Ramesh Mendis (3-24) and Binura Fernando (2-17) shared five wickets between them to derail the hosts’ chase.
Roshan was adjudged the man of the match for his patient half-century.
The two teams earlier played out a 0-0 draw in the two-match four-day series at the beginning of the tour. The visiting Sri Lankan Under-19 team will depart the country today.
