Forest and Environment Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today called upon Hefajat-e-Islam to call off their planned Dhaka blockade on May 5 to show respect to the victims of the Savar building collapse. “Hefajat’s Dhaka blockade should be withdrawn to help completion of the salvage campaign in the Savar building collapse as well as to show tribute to its victims,” he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest. He called upon the Hefajat to hold a talk with the government to resolve the problem instead of taking the path of violence.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organized the discussion titled “Task at the current political perspective” with its Dhaka divisional adviser Sheikh Mohammad Jahangir Alam in the chair.
Among others, Dr Awlad Hossain, vice-president of Krishok League MA Karim, jote secretary Arun Sarker Rana and assistant attorney general Yadia Zaman spoke on the occasion.
The minister also requested the main opposition BNP to sit for a dialogue about the framework of the interim government shunning the politics of vengeance in the name of hartal for the sake of democracy. He made the fervent call to the opposition BNP to give a positive reply to the government’s proposal of holding unconditional talks for the betterment of the nation, saying, “Don’t make any sense that the proposal of holding dialogue exposes the government
weakness.”
