Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha’s three-day programme began with an average arrangement on Wednesday at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium of the Central Public Library due
to nationwide general strike.
The celebrations lacked its customary colour and fanfare compared to previous arrangements of the past 23 years of the organisation marking the day.
The show began with observing one-minute silence for the deceased victims of the Savar tragedy.
The national anthem of the country Amar sonar bangla written and composed by Tagore was rendered in chorus with due respect.
The singers entertained the audience with Sokatore oi kadichhe sokole, a song from the worship section, Hey notun dekha dik arbar from the celebration section, and Akash bhara surja tara from the nature section of Tagore’s
Geetabitan.
Following the chorus’ presentation, a number of renowned singers presented famous Tagore numbers. Shamima Alam Chinu rendered the ever popular Jokhon porbena mor payer chinho in her well-trained voice receiving appreciation from the audience.
Anima Roy rendered the devotional song Majhe majhe tobo dekha pai in her calm voice setting a different atmosphere in the auditorium.
A number of songs were presented from the worship section of Geetabitan- Kotha hote baje premo bedona by Kushal Roy, Bhenge mor gharer chabi by Nusrat Jahan Runa, Aj jostna rate sobai gechhe boney by Babita Sabah and Sundoro bote tobe ongodokhani by Bishnu Mondol.
In spite of general strike, a large number of audience attended the function.
One delighted Mamun Hasan, a university student, said, ‘I love Tagore’s songs. I always attend programmes featuring his songs.’
Another rapt audience Imtiaj Ahmed praised Anima Roy’s presentation.
