A five-storey building tilted at Mohamampur in the city on Saturday
and the authorities asked the residents to evacuate.
The six-storied building on Sher Shah Suri road slightly leaned
towards neighbouring building at about 3:30pm.The police and fire fighters rushed the spot and asked the residents to evacuate the tilted building and disconnected electricity, gas and water lines, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police senior assistant commissioner (Mohammadpur zone) Mukta Dhar.
The building owner constructed the five-story building illegally after obtaining approval for four-storey building from Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha, Mukta said.
Asked whether any action would be taken against the owner, Mukta said ‘Our first priority is to avoid any kind of causality and bring out the dwellers and measures would be taken according to the instruction of the authorities concerned.
There were a restaurant and four shops on the ground floor of the building. No injury was reported.
