The enquiry team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday sought permission of the commission to issue a notice to Sohel Rana, the owner of the collapsed building in Savar, to submit his wealth statement, according to ACC sources. The team also submitted its report before the commission on a preliminary enquiry report on the wealth of Rana on the same day.
The team was formed with ACC Deputy Director Mofidul Islam and Assistant Director Mahbubul Alam to enquire the wealth of Sohel Rana. Wing Commander Tauhidul Islam was entrusted the responsibility to supervise the team.
“We have submitted preliminary report on Rana’s wealth and we will send notice seeking his wealth statement,” said a member of the enquiry team.
According to the report, the ill-fated eight-storey Rana Plaza built on 50-decimal land was the largest wealth of Rana and his parents.
Rana Tower, also located on Savar Bazar road is the second largest wealth of Rana. He is the owner of the property alone. Besides, Rana lives at a floor of another five-storey building at the Bazar road in Savar and the other floors have been rented, said the report.
Rana also owns a two-storied house at his village Joymandap in Manikganj and shares the ownership of two brick-kilns with his parents at Dhamrai and he has many lands in and outside of Savar pourasabha.
According to the report, Rana maintains transactions with five banks including the EXIM Bank where he deposited Tk 35 lakh as Fixed Deposit Rate (FDR).
Meanwhile, the ACC will quiz five Jamuna Bank officials in connection with the alleged swindling of Tk 1,100 crore from five commercial banks by Bismillah Group, a terry towel producer.
The commission on Wednesday sent notice to the bank asking the officials to be present at the ACC head office on May 19 to face its grilling, said an ACC official.
The bank officials who will face quizzing are Senior Executive Vice-President (SEVP — monitory and vigilance division) AKM Badiuzzman, Executive Vice-President Muklesur Rahman, SEVP (corporate division) Shamsur Arefin, SEVP (credit division) Habibur Rahman and Senior Assistant Vice-President Mozaharul Haque.
On February 26, the anti-graft body formed a five-member enquiry team to probe the alleged plundering of about Tk 1,100 crore from five banks.
