The judicial inquiry committee has recommended controlling facebook, twitter and other social communication sites so that it could avoid any untoward incidents like Ramu violence in future. In its report, the probe body also mentioned 298 names as responsible for the Ramu violence. The recommendations were made at a judicial probe committee report that was submitted before the High Court (HC) bench of Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Md Khurshid Alam Sarker on Thursday. The registrar office of the Supreme Court placed the judicial probe report over the Ramu violence as per the earlier HC directive. Later, the HC bench fixed May 28 for hearing over the issue.
In its report, the committee also recommended the government to take initiatives to make the administrator stronger so that it could play a due role if any untoward incident occurs.
It also recommended the government to arrange more programmes, from which people of the country could get the inspiration of patriotism.
Muslim fanatics destroyed 12 temples, monasteries and 50 houses on September 29 following posting of an alleged defamation of the holy Quran on a Facebook account of a local Buddhist person in Ramu of Cox’s Bazar.
Later, advocate Jortimoy Barua filed a writ petition before the HC challenging the government’s inaction in preventing the violence in Ramu on September 29 that eventually spread to Ukhia, Teknaf and Chittagong on September 30.
On December 13 last year, the HC directed the government to conduct a judicial inquiry over the issue.
Later, the Ministry of Law and Home jointly formed a three member committee with the Chittagong district and session Judge Md Abdul Kuddus Miah, Judge Sharif Mostafa Karim and Deputy Secretary Md Jahurul Islam for investigation.
