A Dhaka court on Thursday sent BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu to jail in a case filed in connection with March 11 city violence. Metropolitan Magistrate M Mostafizur Rahman passed the order when police produced him before his court seeking a seven-day remand. When police produced the BNP leader before the court, his lawyer also filed a bail petition. After hearing, the court rejected both the remand and bail petitions and sent him to jail.
Sub-inspector Alauddin of Paltan Police Station filed the case on March 12 against 154 named opposition men, including some top BNP leaders, and some unnamed ones on charges of obstructing police from discharging their duties, making attempts to kill cops and exploding crude bombs near BNP Nayapaltan central office on March 11.Bulu was shown arrested in the case after he had been arrested on Wednesday.
Police detained the BNP joint secretary general as he came out of the party central office at Nayapaltan on Wednesday morning.
