Five people were killed and two others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents at Uttara in the capital and its outskirt Keraniganj on Friday. In Keraniganj, three people were killed on the spot and two others were critically injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw rammed a motorcycle at Pouraharivita in Keraniganj under Keraniganj Model Police Station. Two of the deceased were identified as Russell, 22, son of Abdul Kazi, and his friend Russell, 23, son of Sirajul Islam of Balsuta under Keraniganj. Police said the Kadamtali-bound three-wheeler crashed into the motorcycle around 12:45 pm when three friends– two Russells and Faisal — were going to Nawabganj from the capital, killing two of them.
The driver of the auto rickshaw was also killed in the incident on the spot. His identity could not be found immediately. Faisal and two of the auto rickshaw passengers sustained injuries.
Injured Faisal was rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital while the two passengers were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection, officer-in-Charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station Mainuddin Khan said.
In Uttara, two unidentified youths were killed under the wheels of a bus on Friday.
Police said, on information, they recovered the bodies around 10:00am from the spot in front of Jasim Uddin road police outpost.
Uttara (West) Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Sumon Chandra Das said, a bus of Balaka Paribahan rammed them over while they were trying to cross the road in front of the police box at around 9:00am.
Police, with the help of local people, chased the bus and arrested its driver Lokman Miah, 32, he said.
An eyewitness said, locals beat the driver up and handed him over to police.
The bodies of the victims, aged around 30 and 35, were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
