Bangladesh Bank on Sunday launched a financial literacy campaign in a bid to educate the people about the country’s financial sector.
BB governor Atiur Rahman inaugurated the campaign at the
central bank headquarters in the capital.Through this financial literacy campaign, the BB will raise awareness against illegal financial organisations like multi-level marketing companies so that they cannot exploit the clients, said the governor.
At the programme, BB deputy director Nowsad Mostafa made a presentation on the financial literacy campaign.
Nowsad in his presentation said that the BB would conduct the campaign through the television and the radio and by publishing posters and stickers.
A dedicated web-link will also be created to facilitate the campaign, he said.
The concept of financial literacy has become widespread following the
recent global financial crisis in a bid to ensure financial stability of a country, said Atiur.
Now both the developed and the developing countries are working to educate their people about financial literacy, he said.
A significant number of people lost their assets by investing with the illegal financial organisations, he observed, adding that the BB would try to bring the ‘unbanked’ people in the banking sector with this campaign.
