A fire burnt five shops damaging goods worth more than Tk 2 cores on
Katpatty Road of Barisal City Centre Wednesday afternoon.
The affected shops were Venus, Chan, Limon and Bismillah electrical
shops and New Medicine Mart of the market.Fire brigade sources said the fire originated from a short circuit at Chan Electric Shop and soon spread to the adjacent shops in the afternoon.
Informed, firefighters rushed to the spot and put out the flame after one and a half hours of efforts.
The shop owners claimed that the damaged goods would be worth more than Tk 2 crore.
Fire service officer Faruk Hossain Shikdar said cause of the fire and losses caused by it would be ascertained after investigation.
Lawmakers, BCC mayoral candidates and commissioner candidates, socio-political-businesses community leaders visited the spot and express their sympathy and solidarity with the affected businessmen.
