The Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque has pledged to do his utmost for proper development of Khulna city if he is re-elected.
He said this while presenting his 31-point election manifesto at a press conference at the Khulna Press Club on Saturday. Chairman of the Sammilita Nagarik Committee and former speaker of the fifth parliament Sheikh Razzak Ali presided over the conference.
Talukder Khaleque’s 31-point manifesto included making the KCC corruption-free, improvement of health care services, ridding Khulna city of drug peddling, creating new sources for revenue earning for KCC, making information technology available for students free of cost, development of games and sports facilities, construction of memorial for language movement heroes and turning Khulna city corporation into an accountable and transparent local government body.
‘If re-elected, I will work whole-heartedly to fulfill the pledges,’ he said.
Abdul Khaleque claimed that KCC had received the highest ever allocation of fund of Tk 1,000 crore from the AL-led government out of which Tk 275 crore were spent for different development projects. The remaining project works are going on in full swing. They are expected to be completed by 2016, he said.
The AL-backed mayoral candidate claimed that he had fulfilled most of his polls pledges in last five years after being elected KCC mayor in 2008.
