At least 30 people including policemen were injured during the half-day hartal in four districts on Sunday. About 13 people, including seven policemen, were injured in a clash between Shibir activists and police in Noakhali district town during the eight-hour hartal. Police picked up at least 14 shibir activists from different parts of the district in suspicion of creating sabotage, Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police of Noakhali district said.
Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student association of Jamaat-e-Islami, enforced the shutdown in Noakhali, Laxmipur and Feni districts protesting the arrest of Fakhruddin Manik, former central president, Atiqul Islam, office secretary of Shibir and Mohaiminul Kabir, secretary for international affairs of Shibir.
In Chapainawabganj, at least eight people, including three policemen, were injured in a clash between Shibir activists and law enforcers during the hartal.The 18-party called hartal in the district protesting the arrest of Shibganj upazila parishad chairman and district unit Jamaat nayeb-e-ameer Keramat Ali.
In Luxmipur, Shibir activist brought out a procession in the morning. When it reached near Rashid colony, they vandalised a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and injured the CNG driver.
The clash erupted when Shibir activities threw brick bats at police from a march after being resisted.
Later, police fired several rounds of teargas shells and fired blank shots to bring the situation under control, Altaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, said.
At least seven persons were hurt when police and Shibir locked in a clash at North Temuhani of Sadar town. During the clash, hartal supporters vandalised at least five vehicles.
In Feni, picketers vandalised about 13 vehicles and torched a battery-run easy-bike on different roads of the
district town.
Hartal supporters put up barricade in Lemua area on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in the morning.
When a group of Shibir activists tried to bring out a procession from Old Police Quarter area and Khejurtala, police obstructed them. At that time, the Shibir activists hurled two crude bombs targeting police.
