The medical interns on Monday called off their indefinite work abstention after being assured by the Chittagong Medical College Hospital authorities.
The Intern Doctor Association called off their strike after a join meeting, held with the college authorities, police, Bangladesh Chhatra League and CMC Student Union leaders at the office of college principal at around 2:15pm.
Ashedur Reza, convener of IDA, told journalists that they withdrew their
indefinite strike as the authorities assured them
that the assailants would be arrested within 72 hours.
Debasis Chakrabarty, vice-president of CMCSU, said they would go
further strike if the attackers were not arrested by the time.
CMCH director Brigadier General Khandakar Shahidul Gani, CMC principal Selim Mohammed Jahangir, Bangladesh
Medical Association Chittagong unit president Dr Mujibul Haque Khan, local Awami League leader AZM Nasir Uddin, among others, were also present at the meeting.
The services of the CMCH have become normal after the strike was withdrawn.
The interns called for an indefinite strike on Sunday in protest at attack on one of their fellows.
