State Minister for Housing and Public Works Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan on Thursday called for setting up public-private join ventures for resolving housing problems.
Referring to the election manifesto of Awami League, he said the present government wants to ensure housing facilities
for all by 2015 with the concerted efforts by all.
The state minister was addressing the opening ceremony of a three-day REHAB Summer Fair-2009 at Hotel Sheraton.
President of REHAB (Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh) Engineer Tanveerul Haque Probal presided over the function.
Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Nusrul Hamid, Engineer Enamul Haque, MP, Secretary in-charge of Housing and Public Works Ministry M Mahbubur Rahman and General Secretary of the REHAB Khaled Mohammed Jewel Mollah, among others, addressed the function.
Mannan said the present government would build a digital Bangladesh by 2021 pledged by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and urged all sections of society to help implement the aim.
Mentioning culture not to abide by law, the state minister said, “We should obey laws for bringing discipline in all spheres of life.”
Mannan warned that the government would take stern actions against violators of laws.
He said the government would provide all necessary supports for the REHAB for its smooth journey to ensure more contribution to the economy.
Nusrat Hamid said, “We want restructuring of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) to make it an effective regulatory body.”
He said the government would make a law for the housing sector keeping interest of all people of the country.
Describing the massive contribution of the REHAB to the housing sector, Engineer Enamul Haque said the REHAB has handed over more than one lakh apartments to its customers.
