Renowned singer Farida Parveen entertained a large audience by rendering Monomohon’s songs at the Music and Dance Centre of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
Parveen was able to convey the devotion inherent in the lyrics and compositions of the songs to the listeners through her poignant presentation of mystic numbers like Amar monpakhi mishite chay, Ami tomar posha pakhi, Jedin amar bhobolila hobe oboshan.
‘Monomohon’s songs are all about humanitarian and spiritual awareness. The knowledge of life and death in relation to God, dominates the lyrics of the songs,’ Parveen told New Age.
The programme was held to commemorate three mystic bards of the late 19th and early 20th centuries-Monomohon Dutt, Fakir Aftab Uddin Khan and Labochandra Pal who formed a group of their own.
Monomohan’s disciple Fakir Aftab Uddin Khan, who is also the elder brother of legendary Ustad Alauddin Khan composed the songs penned by Monomohan. Monomohon, along with his two disciples Fakir Aftab Uddin and Lobochandra Pal created a trio during the first decades of 20th century.
Songs composed by the trio were presented at the programe by singers like Chandan Acharya, Kalyani Dutt, Anjan Das, Natash Prasad Ratri and Chowdhury Alauddin.
Earlier, a discussion was held on the bards where professor Shamprasad Bhattacharya, Shah Alam Siddiqi and Jiaul Haque Mridha delivered speeches.
