The Dhaka Electric Supply Company on Sunday cut off the electricity of the Bangladesh Cricket Board office at the Sher-e- Bangla National Stadium for a two-hour period due to non payment of electric bills.
DESCO sources said the BCB owes them
Tk 1 crore 17 lakh in arrear bills for the last nine months.SBNS venue administrator Col (retd) AKM Zaki confirmed the snapping of electric connection of the stadium and said that the hazard occurred due to the negligence of the National Sports Council.
After the incident the BCB immediately
contacted the DESCO officials and assured them to pay Tk 30 lakh by next morning while they give the rest of the amount within a week if the NSC does not pay.
‘This is due to ignorance of the NSC,’ Zaki told reporters.
‘The SBNS runs through one meter that also include the NSC properties apart from the ground and the BCB office,’ said Zaki.
‘We asked them several times to separate the electric lines as the BCB had to pay the entire bill despite not using the utility,’ he said.
There are 86 shops in and around the SBNS apart from the Krira Palli and the water pump that consume major portion of the electricity.
