Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu, on Thursday, said that his ministry will take initiatives to include electronic media under the wage board.
“Inclusion of electronic media under the wage board is a time-befitting demand and realistic demand. So, my ministry will implement the demand,” he added. The minister was addressing a programme on the status of female journalists in the electronic media of Bangladesh. South Asian Women in Media (SAWM), Bangladesh chapter, had organised the event.
SAWM, Bangladesh chapter, president Mizanur Rahman Shelly, central committee vice- president Nasimun Ara Minu, South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) president Riaz Uddin, and SAFMA general secretary Zahiduzzaman Faruk also spoke there. SAWM president Rasheda Amin presided over the meeting.
Banglavision news editor Sharmin Rinvi presented the keynote paper, and Parvin Sultana Jhuma moderated the programme.
The minister urged female journalists to come forward with firm determination. He urged female journalists to become determined to challenge discrimination at workplaces and stop sexual harassment, among other things.
He said democracy is the only option to weed out militancy and terrorism from the country. He urged woman journalists to join the war against poverty, environmental disorders, militancy, terrorism, and gender discrimination.
