Mayoral candidates have strengthened their campaigns for the upcoming Gazipur city corporation election that is scheduled on July 06. Mayoral candidates continued seeking votes by visiting different areas of the city corporation along with their supporters, workers and local leaders. Awami League (AL) led 14 party alliance backed candidate and former mayor of Tongi municipality Advocate Azmot Ullah Khan and BNP led 18 party alliance backed candidate and former State Minister Professor M A Mannan conducted mass campaigns to get votes in the Gazipur City Corporation election.
The whole city is abuzz with election gossips while streets and important places were covered with posters and banners. Campaigners also used loudspeakers in their campaigns.
However, Mayoral candidate Advocate Azmot Ullah Khan visited Tongi Bazar, Notun Bazar, Hydarabad, Gachha, Sharifpur before Jumma prayers. At noon, he visited different places of Gazipur town, accompanied by leaders and activists of the 14-party alliance.
Talking to the voters in the areas, Azmot Ullah Khan, also former mayor of Tongi municipality, highlighted his initiatives for the city’s developments during his time in the mayoral office.
Seeking the voters’ support to continue developing the city, Azmot Ullah claimed he made a lot of developments in improving the city roads and infrastructural works. He also said, if he wins the election, he will build Gazipur as a modern city. On the other hand, Professor M A Mannan, BNP led 18 party alliance backed mayoral candidate , conducted mass contact programmes in Majar area, Beximco road, Cherag Ali road and Deora area in Tongi to seek votes in the upcoming election before Jumma prayers. At noon, he visited Chandona, Dhighirchala and Joydebpur Chowrasta areas.
BNP central leader Nazrul Islam Khan, Alhaj Hassan Uddin Sarker, Advocate Rafik Sikder, BNP Vice President Salina Rahman , Secretary of central Mahila dal Sirin Sultana , Farida Yasmin, Sultana Kamal and a female group from Dhaka accompanied with Prof Mannan.
While he was campaigning, Prof Mannan said to the voters that a lot of development works have done been during his power. If the voters give a chance again, he will change Gazipur as a planned city, he added.
