The High Court (HC) on Wednesday granted bail for four weeks to eight officials including Ashiyan City Managing Director Saiful Islam Bhuiyan in a case filed against them for assaulting two Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) personnel. A vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain granted them bail after hearing bail petition filed by the Asian City’s officials.
All the petitioners appeared before the court during the bail hearing.
Former Justice Monsurul Haque Chowdhury and Advocate Razi Uddin Sarwar appeared for the petitioners while Deputy Attorney General Rona Nahreen represented the state. The case was filed against them on June 19 with Gulshan Police Station on charge of assault and attempt to murder the two DGFI men.
Soon after filing the case, a Dhaka court directed Gulshan Police Station to submit probe report by July 27 in the case filed against 12 persons on charge of “assaulting and attempting to murder the DGFI men”.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tareq Mainul Islam Bhuiyan passed the order when the case was placed before his court on June 19.
