BTRC serves show-cause on Ezetop for extra charging
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to international mobile balance reloading company
Ezetop Limited for charging clients extra amount violating laws.
The BTRC letter said Ezetop was charging 8.8 per cent additional amount from clients in the name of service charges and currency conversion rate while loading mobile balance from abroad.
The letter asked Ezetop to explain its ground and submit detailed service-history against every individual currency-exchange and international-recharge within 10 days from issuance of the notice.
The BTRC in February issued a no objection certificate in favour of Ezetop to run the international mobile balance reloading service and the company came into commercial operation in June.
The telecom rules bar the international reloading companies to charge any additional amount in the name of service or installation charges.
The BTRC’s NOC also said the company had to maintain the currency rate mentioned by the Bangladesh Bank at the time of such transaction without any customization.
The company is cutting $0.88 as service charge from clients for loading $10 and also charging 13 per cent while converting the US dollar to taka, said the officials.
They said such practice by Ezetop violated section 1 and 12 of the no objection certificate issued by the BTRC to the company for operating the business.
The local mobile balance reloading agents have 3.5 per cent discount facility which is applicable for the international operators in the same field, they said.
The BTRC, however, on several occasions asked the operator to follow the regulations set by the commission but the company remained reluctant, said BTRC officials.
