Freedom fighters of Gazipur are all set to campaign for Advocate Azmot Ullah Khan, mayoral candidate backed by the 14-party alliance, in the forthcoming Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) poll. They will set up eight election camps, including six Muktijoddha units, in different city corporation areas. They also will hoist the Liberation War flag in these camps and seek votes for Azmot Ullah. They participated in a meeting at the District Muktijoddha Sangsad office in Gazipur town on Thursday morning. The Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad chairman, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Helal Morshed Khan Bir Bikrom, was the chief guest at the meeting. Kazi Muzammel Haque, former lawmaker and district commander of the Gazipur Muktijoddha Sangsad, presided over the event.

Speakers at the meeting said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed all freedom fighters to work for the 14- party-backed candidate in the GCC election. They described the poll as a struggle between Liberation War supporters and anti-Liberation War elements.
On Thursday morning, mayoral and councillor candidates braved the rain to woo voters. Many central AL and BNP leaders accompanied them in door-to-door campaigning.
Azmot Ullah Khan visited Sataish,Gazipura, Gachha Bazar and Borobari areas. Actress Tarana Halim, Advocate Rahmot Ali, AKM.Mozammel Haque, Zahid Ahsan Rasel and Jahangir Alam also campaigned for him in different areas.
Prof. MA Mannan, the 18-party alliance-backed mayoral candidate, visited Tongi Bazar, BSCIC, Siraz Uddin School, Pagar, Fakir Market , Hazi Market, Jino Market and Gopalpur Kishor Biddaniketon areas. Former home minister Altab Hossain Chowdhury, Alhaj Hasan Uddin Sarker, Brig. Gen. (rtd) ASM.Hannan Shah, Aman Ullah Aman, former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Mizanur Rahman Minu, newly elected mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, JCD vice-president Omar Faruk, joint secretary Mukit Linkon and a group of central JCD leaders were seen campaigning for him in different areas.
