Never mind the warning on the signboard of the BIWTA to protect the river, certain unscrupulous people are dumping rubbish on the western bank of the Buriganga between Kamrangirchar and Keraniganj. Hoping to link up with the fast growing char, a shoal becoming part of the capital. So is the hurry to develop plots for housing despite the Monsoon, leaving the river in spate. The grabbers are using not only rubbish but also all kinds of effluents, including the household and industrial wastes. When the plots are ready the builders will snap the premium property though it belongs to the BIWTA the filling goes on unhindered when the BIWTA chairman Dr Shamsuddoha Khandaler said, their anti encroachment drive is on to save the Buriganga, Shitalakhya and Turag, the rivers girdling the capital, but mangled by encroachers and pollution from dumping of pollutants like those being used here and industries and sewers releasing untreated effluents freely.
