Raanjhanaa is a hit and for Sonam Kapoor, there is finally a biggie against her name. With I Hate Luv Storys being her last major success, there was a lull period of three years with Aisha being the only
moderate runner, reports Hindustan Times.
Now that Raanjhanaa has not just been a commercial success, but also fetched Sonam quite some appreciation, industry in general has managed to gain some more options at least.
‘For last so many years, if at all there was a requirement for a young leading lady who wasn’t over exposed yet, the top choices were Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma or Sonakshi Sinha. There was just no youngster available and this is the reason why Deepika and Sonakshi are being seen in three-four films a year with Anushka following suit,’ says an insider.
With Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra being around for close to a decade each and also in a league of their own, the slots were wide open for younger heroines.
‘Sonam could have fitted in well but then a slew of unsuccessful films in the form of Mausam, Thank You and Players turned out to be a spanner in her plans,’ says a filmmaker, ‘Not that there was a dearth of offers for her. However she too decided to lie low and instead of just opting for a big banner, big hero and a big director.
