The government has planned to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers of Dhaka city and its adjacent areas during the month of Ramadan.
Power division secretary Monwar Islam on Monday asked the utilities to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Dhaka during Ramadan, officials said.He gave the instruction while speaking at an internal meeting of power ministry on electricity supply situation during the coming month of Ramadan, they said.
The prime minister’s energy adviser Tawfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury presided over the meeting while state minister for power and energy Md Enamul Huq and senior officials of power sector attended the meeting.
Monwar asked the power utilities not to impose load shed during Ramadan, particularly, in Dhaka.
Officials of the Power Development Board, the state agency responsible for electricity supply, informed the meeting that it had set a target to make a record of generating 7,000 MW electricity during Ramadan.
The highest power generation was recorded at 6,434MW on June 15,
2013.
PDB informed the meeting that it would be able to ensure dedicated supply of 5,500MW of power to meet the maximum demand during day time between 7am and 6pm during Ramadan.
During evening peak hours between 6pm and 11pm, PDB will be able to produce 6,500MW of power and during Shehere 6,100MW in the early hours.
When asked, PDB member for generation Tamal Chakrabarti told New Age, ‘Everything is planned based on the availability of natural gas for power production.’
Officials said that PDB was expecting 1,000 million cubic feet of natural gas a day for power generation during the month of
fasting.
