Islami Chhatra Shibir on Monday called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk general strike for Wednesday pressing for immediate release of its central president Delwar Hossain and
whereabouts of its disappeared leaders and activists.
Shibir secretary general Abdul Jabbar, in a statement, announced the shutdown.
The Jamaat-e-Islami-backed student organisation also threatened to go for tougher agitation programmes if Delwar and other detained and missing leaders were not released immediately.
Earlier on Friday, Shibir threatened to enforce a countrywide dawn-to-dusk general strike on Sunday.
The organisation, however, called off its programme due to inclement weather in the country and examinations under the National University.
