PASSENGERS’ SUFFERINGS
Unified initiative of different ministries urged
Government officials and experts on Tuesday stressed on unified initiative of the communication, railways and shipping ministries to ease problems in the country’s communication system.
‘There is no use hoping that railways minister or shipping minister or I could separately solve all the transport related problems overnight,’ communication ministerObaidul Quader said at a discussion meeting at the national press club.
The discussion on ‘Owners’ and Workers’ Role to Develop Quality of Passenger Services’ was organised by Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association to mark its 3rd founding anniversary.
Obaidul Quader said that they had to think about an integrated attempt for solving all traffic problems.
‘We also have to admit our faults to rectify those,’ he said and demanded that roads all over the country were in a better shape than those were in the past.
He also hoped that after completion of Elevated Expressway, Bus Rapid Transit, Mayor Mohammad Hanif and Kuril flyovers the traffic congestion would be eased in Dhaka city.
‘If anyone thinks that we could finish the construction work of Padma Bridge in next four months that would be an absurd thought,’ he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Communist Party of Bangladesh leader Ruhin Hossain Prince said that the government should have given emphasis on waterways as the main mode of communications in Bangladesh.
‘But the government only gave emphasis on roads,’ he said.
The special guest at the discussion, railways minister Mohamamd Mazibul Hoque said that the government had taken many initiatives to establish railways as a strong means of public transport.
BPWA central committee president Sharif Rafiquzzaman urged the government to develop the services of communications, railways, shipping and civil aviation and tourism to meet the demands of the passengers.
