The BNP on Tuesday accused Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Speaker of the parliament, of pursuing a partisan role and said opposition lawmakers are being deprived of their due rights’ to raise voice in the house against the government’s “misdeeds.” At the end of parliament session, several opposition lawmakers made the allegation at a press conference held at the media cell of parliament complex on Tuesday night.
BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed MP said, “We are being treated unfairly in the parliament due to the partisan role of the speaker of the house.”
“Our duty is to criticise the government in the parliament but the ruling Awami League does not believe in this. Awami League invites the opposition to take part in parliament but deprives it of the scope to speak in the house,” he added.
BNP lawmakers asked several questions over national issues on point of order but the ruling party did not give any answer. Besides, the ruling party lawmakers are using abusive remarks against the opposition standing on point of order, he added.
The parliament has already been made dysfunctional due to the partisan role of the speaker, he alleged.
MK Anwar MP another standing committee member of the party said his party lawmakers had wanted to help the government to pass the national budget for the next fiscal but failed.
