A number of 21 local and contemporary films are being screened in a seven-day festival at the National Art Plaza auditorium at
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
BSA and Moviyana Film Society have jointly organised the festival titled Somokalin Desiyo Chalachitra Utsab.
The festival was inaugurated on Wednesday by Gohar Rizvi, international affairs advisor to the prime minister. Presided by Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA, AAMS Arefin Siddiqi, vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, Belayat Hossain Mamun, president of Moviyana Film Society, were present at the occasion.
Film-makers whose films have been selected for screening were given honorary citation at the inaugural programme.
The cited film-makers and time of screening of their films are as follows:
Mustafa Sarwar Farooki’s Third Person Singular Number at 10.30am, Tanvir Mokammel’s Lalon at 3.00pm, Chashi Nazrul Islam’s Shuva at 5.00pm, Saidul Anam Tutul’s Adhiar at 7.00pm on July 04
Murad Parvej’s Chandragrahon and Sarah Begum Kabori’s Ayna will be screened on 10.30am and 3:00pm respectively on July 05.
On July 06, two films will screened- Golam Rabbani Biplob’s Swapnodanay at 10.30am and Humayun Ahmed’s Shyamol Chhaya at 3.00pm.
Toukir Ahmed’s Joyjatra at 10.30am, Kazi Morshed’s Ghani at 3.00pm, Nurul Alam Atik’s Dubsatar at 5.00pm, Tareque Masud’s Runway will be screened at 7.00pm.
On July 08, Kohinur Aktar Suchanda’s Hajar Bachchar Dhore at 10.30am, Abu Sayeed’s Shankhanaad at 3.00pm, Gias Uddin Selim’s Monpura at 5.00pm, Morshedul Islam’s Priotomeshu at 7.00pm will be screened.
On the concluding day on July 09 Enamul Karim Nirjhar’s Aha at 10.30pm, Noman Robin’s Common Gender at 3.00pm, Tokon Thakur’s Blackout at 5.00pm and Nasiruddin Yusuff’s Guerilla at 7.00pm will be screened.
In addition, a seminar on Contemporary Films in Bangladesh: Analysis and Evaluation of Tendency will be held at the conference room of BSA on July 06 at 4.00pm.
On the inaugural day Tareque Masud’s Matir Moyna was screened.
‘Usually film festivals are arranged where foreign films or yesteryear’s films are screened. But we have selected very contemporary films of our country to screen in this festival’, said Belayat Hossain Mamun, president of Moviyana Film Society.
