Grameen Uniqlo, a social business initiative of Fast Retailing Co Ltd, on Friday opened its first two stores in Dhaka — one on New Elephant Road and another at Banasree.
Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima, Grameen Uniqlo managing director Yukihiro Nitta and chief operating officer Yamaguchi Tadahiro were present at the opening ceremony of the New Elephant Road outlet.
Shiro Sadoshima said he was extremely pleased to welcome one of Japan’s most established multinationals to Bangladesh.
‘Developed based on Japanese technology, I believe that Grameen Uniqlo will come to be appreciated in Bangladesh as it is elsewhere worldwide,’ he said.
Yukihiro Nitta said, ‘We are committed to Bangladesh in offering our quality, comfortable and affordable clothing.’
The stores offer a range of 32 items for men and ten for
women for between Tk 190 to Tk 1,180. Grameen Uniqlo produces the collection in Bangladesh using locally sourced materials, providing highly practical items in a range of colours made from soft and stretchy synthetic fibre made by locals.
The first one hundred customers on the New Elephant Road outlet received free T-shirt, while complementary Grameen Uniqlo denim tote bags are provided with a purchase from July 5 to July 11 at both the outlets.
